A business woman decided to start a venture manufacturing and selling meat pies. She decided that, in order to be accountable to her customers she would allow the customers to choose the staff that worked in the factory. Only a small number of customers took them up on this offer and duely selected the employees. After a while the business woman realised that the customers had selected a lot of vegans to work in her factory. They hated making the pies and actively obstructed the pie making process. As a result, the pies sold were expensive and of poor quality. The customers complained bitterly.
The factory went out of business. The business woman never worked out if setting the business up was a good idea in the first place or whether it was just the vegans that ruined it. She will never know.
There are 749 MEPs in the EU.
The primary euroskeptic parties (and members) are;
Europe of Nations and Freedom Group (ENF) (38)
Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) (46)
Eurpean Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) (73)
This makes up 21% of the total MEPs. 21% of the workforce acitvely opposed to the EU.
The UK MEPs make up 21/73 of the ECR, 22/46 of the EFDD and 1/38 of the ENF.
The most right wing of the three, the ENF is dominated by the French National Front (20)
The EFDD is mostly composed of UKIP (22) and Movimente 5 Stelle of Italy (17)
It is noted that the European election vote for UKIP was 27.49% (34% turnout), compared to the General Election vote of 12.6% (66% turnout).
When making the case that the European parliament is not working as well as it might, it is worth noting that the UK appears to be sending a disproportionate number of euro-skeptics to Brussels.
This might explain a bit about the quality of those european meat pies.
